Day 2-3(April 4-5): PHAK YEAH! VIP STRAIGHT INTO PHAKDING
Day 2 was spent getting last minute things in Kathmandu, gear check and CTSS dinner at the hotel. It was a glorious buffet outside under the trees. We all retired early to pack things into 3 bags. 1st will have upper mountain gear and things we do not need until Lobuche base camp. 2nd has everything we need during our trek from Lukla over the next 8 days. And 3rd will stay at the hotel this next 6-8 weeks with city clothes and extra gear that won’t be going up. I am pretty used to the drill, but ALWAYS end up staying up way to late packing!
We met in the lobby at 5:35 am and headed to the airport for the waiting game to begin. We are a big group, so split into 3 waves for flights to Lukla. The first 2 made it out, but my wave was not so lucky. Cloudy weather rolled into the Lukla airport and we waited for things to clear. This is reminiscent of last year! So, I made the best of it and sipped coffee until we were able to jump on helicopter to get in. We finally left the airport around 1:30 pm. Since the rest of our crew had already flown into Lukla and stared hiking, we were flown straight into the town of Phakding where we would be staying for the night. We got there within minutes of the rest of the crew! We ate, we laughed and got to know each other better. Great first day and I didn’t even have to hike! Ha
