Last Day on Lobuche
April 12
Gorgeous sunny morning on our high camp perch. Not the best sleep last night for all, seeing as we were all at a slant on top of hard rock. But, none of us are strangers to struggle.
We were able to have breakfast outside as a group for the first time in a couple days. Shared some laughs and prepared to leave high camp. We rotate tents with the other waves (3 total for CTSS) coming after us. So, we made sure to leave our tents as clean as possible. I left a huge KitKat in the middle of the tent with a message “welcome to your high camp home”. As we made the decent, we met wave 2 coming up on their ascent! We greeted each other with gloved fist pumps, or elbow knocks (no hugs as to keep germ spread down).
Was nice to be back at low camp and our shared dome eating space! Wave 3 was just rolling in, Mike Hamil included. A few from wave 2 stayed down at low camp as well, so it was a full house!
A few of us, a little stir crazy from so much “tent time” walked a mile in to the “big city” (NOT) of Lobuche for some weak Wi-Fi, Pringles reload and WHAT WHAT??? San Miguel and a random bottle of Sauvignon blanc (worth every rupee). Next thing I knew, Khumbu Valley Social Club had an afternoon meeting!
We headed back to camp around 4:30, dinner at 6:30, headlamps on by 8, and sleepy sleep by 9!
Energy is strong, knowing we will make the final leg to EBC tomorrow! I feel like Buddy the Elf “OMG!!!!! It’s SANTA!!!!”
