After 28hr of travel, LAX – DOH – Kathmandu, I arrived in Nepal at 10 am. It’s been 7 years since my last trip and am impressed by the new built out airport! I didn’t know what the city would be like a year into the pandemic. The economy was crippled with the closure of the Everest season 2020. I am sure the nepalese are anxious and excited for men and women, from around the world, to start trickling back in, all for the chance to see and possibly climb the highest mountain in the world. I am anxious and excited too!
As I walked out of the airport doors, 3 huge duffles and a backpack loaded, I was greeted by the CTSS (Climbing The Seven Summits) team! Short drive to the Yak and Yeti Hotel. Shocked by the light traffic! What the heck? Am I in Kathmandu? Not complaining, just observations of covid impacts around the world.
It is GOOD TO BE BACK at the YNY! I got in a couple days earlier than my team, so the hotel is quiet and I will enjoy this time to adjust to the time change, get my electronics charges and loaded, and finally let 2 years of training set in. This is finally happening! I tear up with gratitude just getting to this point. The commitment of time, emotion, money, discipline and patients is not easy. I did not realize, until this very moment, just how much of myself I have invested into this. I have already succeeded just getting here. I feel that… but of course this is just the beginning. Here we go Buchanan… GET YOUR GGRIT ON GIRL!!
